Dermaplaning
What is Dermaplaning?
layer of dead cells called corneocytes. This is an advantageous protocol
because it not only removes superficial dead skin but also unwanted hair,
albeit, temporarily. It may cause some redness, especially in someone with
sensitive skin, but this subsides in an hour or so.
Why Dermaplane?
Pros: When a client comes in with dull, dry, dehydrated and or
congested skin, it is often because they have a surface barrier of dead cells
that are not allowing topical products to penetrate. At the same time,
impurities from within are trapped and, as well, underlying new cells are
unable to surface. This results in the dry, lackluster appearance. Once we have
dermaplaned the skin, that barrier is removed and the skin begins to respond to
the skin products being used. Also, it is able to expel the impurities from
within and thereby create a healthier and revitalized skin.
Dermaplaning is a great option for those clients who are actively using
aggressive topicals, example Retin-A, Retinols, Glycolic acid or high strength
Salicylic acids on a home care routine. It not only accelerates and aids in the
sloughing off of the dead skin that is peeling but is a great alternative to
waxing which could literally rip areas of the skin, particularly in cases of
prolonged usage of exfoliating agents such as Retin-A which makes the skin
vulnerable and prone to damage with even the slightest trauma.
Cons: It is generally not a good idea to dermaplane someone with
highly sensitive skin, pustular and oozing skin or active rosacea. Also,
typically a diabetic patient is not the greatest candidate for dermaplaning
because of problems with healing in case they were nicked. People with
auto-immune disease need to get written permission from their physician before
we are able to perform the service.

Medical Grade Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin treatment that removes the damaged and dead uppermost layer of skin cells to reveal healthy skin cells beneath. Microdermabrasion consists of a jet of micro crystals (aluminum oxide) which are propelled thru a small, hollow, pencil-like hand piece across the skin's surface, removing the damaged and dead skin cells with vacuum pressure. It is an effective acne treatment that reduces scars, wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. Microdermabrasion does not use irritant chemicals or knives, and there is no down time. It isn’t painful and is a portion of the cost of undertaking cosmetic surgery.
What To Expect After A Treatment
After a treatment, the skin may feel tight and warm as if exposed to sun or wind. Fresh newly exposed skin will be delicate. It is important to wash with only a mild cleanser, keep your new skin well moisturized, and use a broad spectrum, high SPF sun block. Its overall immediate results are that it leaves the skin soft, smooth, healthier, and more youthful looking.
